I run several websites that I use Google Adwords to attract traffic to via PPC advertising. I’m definitely an Adwords noob, and I’m learning as I make mistakes along the way. One of my websites is in a very heavily advertised market, with CPC amounts upwards of $30. Now this works out great for my AdSense account, as I get decent EPC for click-throughs, primarily via organic search results. But on the Adwords side of things, it makes it a little tough to compete with the industry players when they throw millions at PPC advertising every month. Read more

As I was setting up the new blog, I wanted to incorporate a date icon (the little graphic to the left of the post titles on the home page) to add a little flair (not unlike Office Space) to my blog. I Googled a few terms and found a couple of really useful blogs that describe in detail how to make these little icons and insert them into your WP code. Read more

As a web designer, I’m always looking for ways to make life easier. I have a bad tendency to find a solution only to forget where I found it the next time I need it. That’s one of the reasons I started this blog. So I have a place to jot down where I found things and be able to find them later.
When designing sites, I like to use Adobe Dreamweaver (formerly Macromedia). Dreamweaver is definitely a top tier development tool, and it simplifies a lot of the repetitive functions done while coding a site. However, the complexity of Dreamweaver lends itself to developing applications that are more involved. This results in more coding and problem solving. I came across WebAssist about a year ago, and found their products very intriguing. I bought their Super Suite application which includes a ton of Dreamweaver extensions that make life as a web designer a lot simpler. Read more

Google Analytics, formerly called Urchin, is a free service offered by Google that allows website owners to track information on virtually every aspect of their website. To sign up, go to Google Analytics and get a free account. You will be provided a small JavaScript code that you place on the pages you would like to track. Once this code is live on your site, Google will begin gathering information on the visitors to your website. Read more

*I wrote this article on another website and thought it would be useful rehashed here. This article will demonstrate an easy way to create dynamic CSS-based navigation menus that allow you to change your website navigation sitewide with one simple MySQL database update. For this example, I will be using the Chrome CSS Drop Down Menu available from Dynamic Drive. It’s a free, lightweight CSS menu that is easily customizable and only uses a small amount of JavaScript. There are other free CSS menus available such as the Suckerfish menu and other commercial menu options are available. Read more

As a logical first post on WebRehash.com, I thought I’d share how I customized the blog with a different WordPress theme. For readers new to the blog scene, there are many blog platforms out there, but I chose to use WordPress because of it’s extensive plug-in support and the fact that it is very easy to customize.
I installed WordPress via the Fantastico scripts that come included in my web hosting plan. If you don’t have a “click and install” type of function from within your site admin section, you can download the installation package from the WordPress website here. Read more
