Creating Date Icons for WordPress

As I was setting up the new blog, I wanted to incorporate a date icon (the little graphic to the left of the post titles on the home page) to add a little flair (not unlike Office Space) to my blog. I Googled a few terms and found a couple of really useful blogs that describe in detail how to make these little icons and insert them into your WP code.

The first site I found was WPDesigner and they had a good tutorial on creating the date buttons. It wasn’t quite what I was looking for, so next I checked out mahud’s blog and found a similar tutorial. This on had creative CSS styling that allowed for larger font sizes without breaking the layout. The one I finally settled on was found at Euphorish and they provided downloadable png and psd files as well. I ended up creating my own custom png similar to the ones provided there, styled the text a little bit and wala… the final product.

If you’d like to download the Fireworks png file, click here. It has all the original layers and the colors can easily be changed.
